Atlanta Surgeon Dr. Erin King-Mullins Named to First-Ever WNFC Medical Advisory Board

Atlanta-based colorectal surgeon Dr. Erin King-Mullins has been selected to serve on the inaugural Medical Advisory Board for the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC), the premier professional tackle football league for women in the United States.

The WNFC recently announced the formation of its first-ever medical advisory group to help guide the league’s approach to health, safety, and long-term wellness of its athletes. Dr. King-Mullins, a double board-certified general and colorectal surgeon based in Atlanta, Georgia, was chosen for her expertise in surgical care, trauma-informed treatment, and comprehensive patient advocacy.

The WNFC highlighted that Dr. King-Mullins’ expertise strengthens the league’s approach to trauma-informed care, surgical readiness, and systemic health considerations within a high-contact sport environment.

“Football has always been a sport I love, and seeing women compete at the highest levels of the game is incredibly inspiring,” said Dr. King-Mullins. “I’m honored to contribute to the health and safety of these athletes and help ensure they have access to the same level of medical expertise and care that male professional athletes receive.”

Dr. King-Mullins believes that this opportunity represents something bigger than football. Her work with the WNFC reflects a broader commitment to improving healthcare access and education for women in sports across all disciplines—from football to soccer, track, dance, and beyond.

“Women athletes deserve thoughtful, specialized care that recognizes the unique demands placed on their bodies,” she said. “Whether it’s a professional football player, a dancer, or a recreational athlete, the goal is the same: helping women stay strong, healthy, and able to do what they love.”

As an Atlanta physician deeply involved in community health advocacy, Dr. King-Mullins hopes her role will help elevate conversations around injury prevention, recovery, and long-term wellness for women athletes nationwide.

The Women’s National Football Conference continues to expand its national presence while raising the standard for women’s professional sports. With the creation of its medical advisory board, the league is signaling a commitment to athlete safety and medical excellence as the sport continues to grow.

Dr. King-Mullins will collaborate with fellow medical experts to help guide health protocols, athlete care strategies, and medical preparedness for the league.

For women and girls watching these athletes compete, the message is powerful: women belong in every arena—including professional sports—and they deserve world-class healthcare support along the way.
